Why do we read at all? We do so to stimulate the mind and take ourselves away from the here and now to somewhere different.
Erotica is no different, we read it/write it and take ourselves to wonderful places to meet different people. Now your choice of the types of those Places and People is very much your preference but there is one thing that is certain, you want to be taken there and given a story line that gives you a reason to invest time and to be stimulated.
Now no offence to those that create what I like to call the ten page wonder, no real story just a quick burst of hot sex and that’s all you’re getting. But really? Doesn’t the reader deserve more?
Now it is oft said that the female mind can create images of pleasure and the male mind likes to be fed from what it can see. While this might be generally true (why else ladies would you don fancy lacy underwear if not to stimulate your partner?), it doesn’t have to be, with well written story lines both sexes can discover the pleasure of the read before them. But to achieve this you must have material to base it upon and that requires a well thought out story line in a novel.
