To Spell or Not to Spell... UK v’s US

Often I have seen and read comments by readers in the US that they are seeing spelling errors, no what you are seeing is the correct way to spell a word in English. So how did we arrive at the sorry situation where “Colour” became “Color” and “Customise” became “Customize”, well simply put it comes down to a point in history when independence from England was achieved.

Everyone was running around looking for ways to pretend they were now very different from the peoples they had been only a year before. Language and spelling were perhaps the obvious way to appear and extenuate that difference, and thus attempts were made to alter the spelling and grammar to be used. Some of it stuck and some of it didn’t. The result is a sort of half-hearted alternate language, with the rest of the English-speaking world still happily using the original (albeit dynamically changing language).

What does this all mean for my words and creations? Well I will as I am English with an English editor continue to apply all the extra “u” and “s” not “z” and hope you can still enjoy the creations I place before you.
